Stuffed

Observed in dublin Zoo, 1960s

These polar bears were a famous sight in Dublin Zoo for many years. Then they were no more.

The species is now an endangered species due to global warming, and real polar bears, whether in captivity or in the wild, will become a rarity in the future, if there are any left at all.

Ironic, then, that the self same bears have become a symbol for the commercialisation of Christmas, sitting in the indoor comfort of a shopping centre in a mock up drawing room, encouraging us to spend, spend, spend on purchases which are increasing the very global warming that is leading to their own possible extinction.

Talk about turkeys voting for Christmas.

Observed in the Donaghmede Shopping Centre, 2 January 2007
